How to frame your Sports Memory Mate Pictures: A guide to Cardboard Memory Mates

You have your memory mates prints… do you have frames for them?

If you’re the photographer, do you offer cardboard Memory Mate frames to your clients as a package add-on?

There are many framing options you can add to your sports photography packages, from economical paper portrait folders to cardboard frames and even upscale poly frames.

Let’s look at what you can do with different framing options.

The Economical: Frame your Memory Mates in Paper Frames or Photo Folders

Paper and cardboard photo folders and frames for 8″ x 10″ Memory Mate sports pictures are an extremely economical—and practical—option. Here’s why:

  • They’re made out of paper, and paper is inexpensive. (Bonus: these are made of recycled paper)
  • Photo folders have a front cover that folds over to protect your print from fingerprints and creases—perfect for handing out to athletes or parents.
  • Are you the photographer? Add your studio logo to the front cover or back of the portrait holder.
  • Or add the team mascot logo to the front cover with foil stamping.

Shop 8″ x 10″ photo folders for Memory Mates or 8″ x 10″ paper frames.

The Mid-Range: Frame your Memory Mates in Cardboard Picture Frames

A bit more sturdy than paper photo folders, 8″ x 10″ cardboard picture frames have an upscale look—at a fraction of the cost.

Here’s why you might want cardboard frames for Memory Mates:

  • Sturdy frames that are less expensive than wood frames.
  • Display on the wall or stand up on a desk.
  • Our cardboard frames are available with a glossy black wrapped finish. Or check out our mat board frames if you want to match the team colors.
  • Order Memory Mate cardboard frames blank (no order minimum!) or add the team logo with classy foil stamping.

The Upscale: Frame your Memory Mates in Moulded Picture Frames

Polystyrene (plastic) frames are an upscale framing option for Memory Mates. Designed to look like real wood with a subtle decorative moulding, these frames come with your choice of colored picture frame mats.

So why go with this luxury option for your memory mate picture frames?

  • Upscale look perfect for displaying at home or in the office.
  • Adding mat board gives it a professional touch.
  • Glass face protects the print.
  • Deluxe, wood-like finishes: black, cherry, or walnut.
  • Slots for hanging on the wall, or display your 8″ x 10″ Memory Mate frame on your desk with the horizontal/vertical easel back.

Memory Mate Picture Frames… also good for Magazine Covers

We’ve all seen them (or even bought them): the magazine-style photo of your athlete, complete with mascot, position, team colors, and professional sports magazine-style layout.

Yes, the magazine covers deserve a frame, too! For framing sports magazine covers, we recommend using a sturdy cardboard frame, like this or this, or choosing an 8″ x 10″ poly frame.

Why Instax and Polaroid cameras are making a comeback as alternatives to photo booths

Don’t get us wrong, photo booths with an iPad or dSLR camera are going nowhere.

However.

Those adorable, vintage-style film cameras? Yeah, film isn’t dead.

But… why? Why are so many people choosing Polaroid or Instax over a standard photo booth? We’ve already shared 10 reasons to have a photo booth.

Now here are 5 reasons why pictures from instant cameras are a great alternative to the modern day photo booth

1. Vibrant Colors.

Film has come a long way. But those instant prints all have something in common: color. Often producing vibrant colors—more-so than what our eyes can see—these instant prints bring images to life in a whole new way.

Vibrant colors + defined contrast in highlights and shadows = Instax magic. Image by StockSnap from Pixabay.

2. Soft Lines.

Let’s face it, instant camera prints aren’t crystal-clear in focus. But that just adds to the charm, right? Those softer lines give that vintage feel of photographs taken before digital cameras were a thing. While not noticeable to some, this softer, dreamy quality is something that film photography hobbyists and aficionados can appreciate.

But it is important to note that—especially if you’re shooting the images yourself—there are ways to reduce the blur. From Polaroid’s website, they note some common causes of blurry photos include:

  • Long shutter speed
  • Flash not firing (depends on the cameral; some have automatic flash)
  • Camera isn’t focused on your subject

3. Sentiment-inducing white border.

What is it about that white border? For many—perhaps the Gen X-ers—had many Polaroid prints from their parents or grandparents. So using these at a wedding or party is a throwback to a simpler time, a simpler way to view photos.

Plus, that nifty white border leaves plenty of room for adding a little note to the person you’re giving the picture to (even if it is yourself!).

4. It’s an easy DIY photo booth option

If you have your own Instax or Polaroid camera, then this is an affordable route for you to take. The film can cost about $1 per print, so take that into consideration when budgeting for your event.

The fun part of a DIY Instax or Polaroid photo booth is that you can let guests do their own thing. Leave the camera on a table (have someone watch over it!), and they can take their own photos for a unique perspective for each image.

Or, set up your own photo backdrop and assign someone to take pictures of the guests.

Whichever route you take, this relaxed, DIY photo booth idea is perfect for informal events or parties with kids. Because, really, how many kids do you know who would think a Polaroid print developing was some sort of magic?

One last note about a DIY Polaroid or Instax photo booth: this can be a really fun option! If you want the vintage charm of these prints, but want your pictures to look professional, there are professionals who shoot with these camera! The benefit of hiring a pro is that they know how to photograph people, and they know how to create the best lighting for those photos.

5. The option for digital

While not all instant cameras come with a digital storage option, this is becoming the norm. This is perfect for when you want to send guests home with a photo, but you want one, too.

Isn’t it great when analog and digital play nicely with each other?

How to frame your Instax or Polaroid prints—and why you should

If you’re throwing a party where branding matters, hosting a fundraiser, or celebrating your wedding vows, why not personalize the party a little more?

Framing your instant camera prints is smart because:

  • It protects your prints. It’s amazing how an extra layer of cardstock can protect your prints from creases, smudges, or worse, getting left behind.
  • Lets guests display their photos. Sending guests home without a frame means those pictures—those memories—might be put in a drawer and forgotten. Why not give them a way to show off those memories.
  • It’s another thing for you to personalize. Depending on the frame you choose, you can add event branding, a company logo, or a sweet little thank you note from the bride and groom.

Do you use an Instax or Polaroid for event photography?

We get a lot of orders for paper frames for instant camera prints, so we know people are using them. But we love hearing how these charmingly vintage cameras help bring your event to life! Let us know in the comments below how you’ve used one at your event.

Why you should add photo cards to donor thank you packs

Have you ever donated some money to a non-profit and received a thank you pack in the mail?

Some of the non-profit donor thank you packs have just a letter, some have a coupon to redeem a gift, and others include the gift. Each of those solutions works, depending on the size of the organization, and the type of donors who give money.

But we have a clever idea that could help boost donations. How?

Including the simply elegant photo insert card in your donor thank you packs.

How to use photo insert cards to boost non-profit donations

The thing with sending photo insert cards in donor welcome packs is that they aren’t actually a gift for the donor. Rather, they are a gift for the donor to send to someone else. Tricky, we know… but it works!

To understand why this tactic works, we need to look at the science behind giving and happiness.

Science has proven that giving back feels good

When you give to somebody, endorphins are released, making you feel good. Typically related to exercising or eating spicy foods, once endorphins are released, that “high” can last for hours.

So you give something—money, goods, or service—and that good feelings lasts.

Infographic explaining why giving back feels so good: releases endorphins, lowers blood pressure, creates more positive opinions, elicits feelings of gratitude.

Achieving the “helper’s high” with donor thank you packs

But here’s the thing with endorphins and donor thank you packets: there’s no way you can mail a donor pack and have it there before the endorphins wear off.

So you do the next best thing: put together a thorough, personable donor welcome packet that capitalizes on that “high” feeling.

  • Start with a short, hand-signed welcome letter. Be sure to thank them for the specific amount they donated, and tell them how those funds will be used.
  • Include pictures of your organization. If you want to make the biggest impact, include photos of the places or people that money is helping.
  • Tell them how to follow you. Whether you share your organization’s deeds on social media, through email, or a quarterly newsletter, keep them engaged!
  • Give them a gift. Here’s where photo cards come into play. Read on!

How photo cards can grow the “helper’s high”—and boost donations

Here’s what you do: order photo insert cards or make some custom printed cards. The goal is to design a photo greeting card to give to donors that they will in turn send to someone they know.

On the cover, add a photo relating to what your organization does, but leave it generic enough to work as an everyday greeting card image.

Leave the inside of the card blank so the card sender (the donor who received your welcome packet) can write their own personal message.

On the back, add your non-profit’s logo, website URL, and brief message. Keep it short enough not to overwhelm the overall design of the card, but include enough to entice card recipients to visit your website—and donate to you.

Increase awareness by adding your logo, slogan, and website to the back of each card. Shown: Desert Storm (Kraft) Photo Insert Card

Types of photos to use for donor packet greeting cards

  • Nature or wildlife
  • Cityscape or photo of the town your organization is in
  • Popular area landmark (be sure to check copyrights first)
  • A project your team and volunteers completed
  • Have an artist on staff or a donor or volunteer artist? Have them create something that aligns with your mission.
  • Add a simple message like “Have a beautiful day”. If you’re sending these out near Christmas, add a cheerful Christmas design.

In giving these photo greeting cards to donors, you’re thanking them for donating to you (that’s the fist “helper’s high”), and you’re encouraging to send a beautiful, personalized card to someone they care about (that’s the second “helper’s high”).

Wildlife conservation groups or nature preservation non-profits can give photo cards with wildlife photos inserted. Shown: Black Photo Insert Card

Does your non-profit send thank you packs?

If not, it’s never too late to start. Whether you go all-out with letters, photos, cards, and brochures, or start with just a simple, personalized email, donor thank you packs are a sensible marketing tactic to help you achieve donation goals.

If you do send thank you packs, what do you include in them? More importantly, are your donor packs successful?

5 Reasons You Need a Photo Booth for your Pictures With Santa

Pictures with Santa are so. much. FUN!

But pictures with Santa have changed. Remember the scene in “A Christmas Story” when Ralph and little brother Randy went to a department store to an elaborate setup with Santa up top and a biiiiiig slide for kids to go down? When’s the last time you saw a setup like that?

While getting your picture taken with Santa might not be as big of an ordeal as it used to be, it’s still very much a thing. But how you have those pictures taken has changed. Santa (and his helpers) don’t wait for you to come find them; nowadays, you’ll find Santa at just about any Christmas event planned during the holiday season.

While you can do a DIY set up to take your own photos with Santa, we have an idea that will give your party guests some fun, memorable prints: hire a photo booth.

Don’t think a photo booth is worth the rental cost? Read on to see why photo booths are such a great idea for getting your picture taken with Santa.

1. Photo booths have been around for a long time… people know how to have fun in them!

Even if the setup a photographer uses is similar to what a photo booth setup looks like, if you call it a photo booth, peoples’ inhibitions seem to dwindle a bit. Throw in some props and you have instant fun! How much fun would your party guests have if the guests and Santa used props in their photo booth pictures?

So if you want some fun, relaxed, candid photos with Santa at your company Christmas party or holiday event, consider a photo booth.

Photo booths often offer a more casual environment than studio portrait setups. Smile how you want, pose how you want, and shoot, give Santa a smooch if you want! Photos by Say Ya! Photo Booth. Visit them on Instagram or Facebook.

2. You can choose a backdrop to match your event décor.

Most photo booth companies have many different backdrop offerings. Some even offer custom designed photo booth backdrops!

But you don’t have to feel limited to just a solid screen. If space, time, and lighting allows, most photo booth companies will let you design your own backdrop—even if that includes Santa’s sleigh! So go on, think big.

3. You can get printed AND social sharing options.

When it comes to having pictures taken with Santa, most people want the print, and that’s it. And that is perfectly ok!

But what if you want to create an online experience to further the message of your event or brand? That’s where photo booths with social media sharing capabilities come into play.

These photo booths with digital downloads or social sharing options let you share your pictures direct to your social media channel of choice. Shoot, some even offer gifs! The possibilities here are nearly endless. If you choose a photo booth with social media sharing, be sure to have guests tag your company, event, or use a special hashtag so you can follow the experience online.

Be sure to ask around, though, as not all photo booth companies offer the social sharing option.

4. Easier for kids

Let’s face it, some kids get freaked out at the idea of sitting on Santa’s lap. Even if they recognize him as Santa, he’s still a stranger up close.

When it comes to Christmas party photo booths with Santa, you have a few options for getting pictures with the kids.

First, you can take the traditional route of the kid on Santa’s lap or standing next to him. For a lot of kids, this works great. Others… not so much.

In order to keep all the kids (and their parents!) happy, consider creating a photo booth setup for the whole family to enjoy. Wary kids will be more open to participating if mom and dad or their friends are all in the picture with them.

A large group of people wear silly glasses and other props while having their picture taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Photo booths can allow for large setups, meaning the whole family can have their picture taken with Santa. Photo by Shutter Booth Charlotte. Visit them on Instagram and Facebook.

5. You don’t really need Santa.

Gosh, we hope that statement doesn’t put us on the naughty list. But there’s some practicality behind that statement.

If hiring Santa for your Christmas event isn’t in your budget, you still have some great options with photo booths to make it look as though Jolly Old St. Nick was there.

Santa Replacement #1: Backdrops

Back to the topic of backdrops… some photo booths might have a backdrop with Santa on it. So you just pose in front of a picture of Santa and call it a day!

Other photo booth rentals might offer green screens, so you can choose from their library of backgrounds, or perhaps even design your own.

Santa Replacement #2: Props

Every photo booth has props. And most Christmas party photo booth rentals offer Christmas-themed props as part of their package. So while Santa might not be there, maybe you can wear his hat.

Six people pose in a photo booth in front of a bright, sparkling silver backdrop. They are all wearing funny holiday photo booth props and smiling or making silly faces.
No Santa? No problem! We think these props work great. Photo by Shutter Booth Charlotte. Visit them on Instagram and Facebook.

If the photo booth doesn’t offer Christmas-themed props, ask them if it’s ok to bring your own. If you go the DIY-route, check out any arts and crafts store or yes, even Target or Walmart.

Santa Replacement #3: Custom Photo Booth Print Design

If you opt for printed photos at your holiday party photo booth, ask the photo booth owner if they offer designs on their prints. Many photo booth companies offer designed prints in their packages. Here’s a bonus: some of them even let you add branding! As always, ask these questions to get the most out of your event budget.

How to find a photo booth for your Christmas party

Need help finding a photo booth near you for your holiday event? Here are three easy ways to find a photo booth near you:

  1. Go to your search engine (ex: Google or Bing) and type in “photo booth near me”. The results will populate with local photo booth businesses for you to research.
  2. Go to Facebook and search for “[your city] photo booth”. Below the search bar, scroll sideways to look for “Pages” and you’ll find a list of pages for photo booth companies.
  3. Go to Instagram, tap the search icon and type in either “photo booth”. Scroll sideways below the search bar and tap on “Places”. Not all of these will be local to you, but many will. Another way to search on Instagram is to search for the name of your city, scroll to “Places,” and tap on the name of your city. This will give you a searchable map. If your local photo booth owners have added their business location, they will appear on this map.

If you’re taking photo booth pictures with Santa, send those prints home in a festive photo folder

At Studio Style, we design and manufacture a full line of photo folders and cardboard frames—and yes, we have LOTS of Christmas designs. Just choose one to go with your event, or design your own. Not sure where to start? We can help! Send us a message or call us at (800) 346-3063.

Happy party planning! 🎄🎅🎁

Paper Frames for Botanical Graphics: A Buying Guide

Whether you’re looking to frame your own botanical graphics or you want a cheap framing solution to sell your botanical prints at art fairs, farmers markets, or online, we have some great options for you.

First things first: we need to talk about archival-quality framing.

The botanical print frame options we have for you are all made out of acid-free, archival-quality materials. What that means is your artwork won’t fade or yellow. Of course, if you put the print in direct sunlight, fading could occur; however, the areas protected by the frame won’t fade or yellow. Likewise, if the print is exposed to extreme humidity, the print could get brittle (low humidity) or moldy (high humidity).

Let’s look at some different options for framing botanical or floral prints.

Budget-Friendly Botanical Print Frames

If you’re working on a budget or are just looking for cheap frames for your botany prints, you’ll want archival-quality paper frames. We have many recycled options in a variety of standard print sizes.

5″ x 7″ Photo Insert Card Frames for 4″ x 6″ Prints

Our Simplicity photo insert cards are popular with nature photographers, so we know they’ll complement your botanical artwork as well.

The beautiful thing about these acid-free photo frame cards is that the card itself fits a 5″ x 7″ frame. This is the perfect, budget-friendly selling option for when you want to let buyers of your art choose their own frame. So not only can you sell photo insert cards as a custom greeting card, but you can also sell them as inexpensive picture frame mats.

Whether you sell these at art fairs or give them out as botanical birthday cards, photo insert cards are an upscale—but inexpensive—way to frame your botanical prints.

Bonus: Many of these photo frame greeting cards are made of recycled paper. Plus, if you’re ordering blank photo insert cards, there is no order minimum. Get as many—or as little—of whatever colors you need! Learn all about our popular photo insert cards.

Easel Back Paper Frames

If you want a true paper frame with easels for easy display on a desk, mantel, or end table, you’ll want acid-free paper frames made of recycled black or white textured cardstock. These cheap paper frames are an economical way to frame your prints of flowers.

How to Sell Your Own Art Cards

Calling all artists! Do you want to turn a profit from your creative passion? Whether you’re a painter, photographer, printmaker, illustrator, henna artist, embroidery savant, or a mixed media aficionado, you can leverage your favorite art form to create unique, handcrafted greeting cards to sell.

Our customers share all kinds of stories with us about how they pair our blank photo insert cards with their own art. And the good news is, if you plan to make and re-sell your own cards, you qualify for wholesale card pricing.

Here are a few ideas to consider as you plan to start selling your own art cards.

Sell Art Cards At Local Shops

What are some of your favorite shops in town? Do you have any friends or family members who own or manage a brick and mortar business?

Stop in at local boutiques, flower shops, jewelry stores, hospitals, restaurants and cafes, yoga studios, and pitch the idea. Bring a few of your favorite handmade cards to show off. Be prepared to talk about pricing and your wholesale or consignment policies. If there’s interest, you may find an opportunity to create a custom line of art cards exclusively made for one location.

Sell Art Cards at Pop-Up Markets

Many cities have spring and summer farmers markets, art shows, cultural events, vendor shows, business expos, and craft fairs that attract lots of local shoppers.

Chat with your park district, chamber of commerce, or do some searches for upcoming local events on Facebook or Google. Ask your friends and family members if they’ve attended any fun art shows or craft fairs, and start making a calendar of the dates.

Check with your local schools and churches, too. They often organize these types of events annually as fundraisers for their organization. A few things to keep in mind:

  • It’s a good practice to attend a few of these events yourself, to get a feel for the crowd and attendance so you can assess if your art cards will appeal to the audience.
  • It’s also a good idea to help you assess whether the traffic at each show will justify the booth fee that the organizers are charging for vendors.

Keep in mind that many outdoor events are rain or shine, so doing this type of setup will require you to invest in a sturdy tent with weights, tables, display materials, business cards, signage, and in some cases, liability insurance.

But don’t take our word on all this, take Bonnie’s:

This comment is on our post about how to sell your nature photography.

Sell Art Cards on Etsy

Etsy is a well-established and fast-growing online marketplace for makers to sell their handmade goods and art.

While there are a plethora of options for selling your art cards online (and we encourage you to do your own research to find the platform that’s the best fit for you) Etsy is fairly simple to use, has a reasonable fee structure, and is backed by leading e-commerce research and major marketing power.

You can also search Etsy for art cards in your specific style to see how other makers are pricing and titling their cards to get ideas for your own Etsy shop.

How to Price Your Art Cards

Do your market research to see what the going rate is for cards in your area. You want to be sure that you’re not just covering the cost of your time and materials, but also including some profit margin, and considering any overhead for things like marketing costs and booth fees, and insurance, while still being affordable to your customer.

Average art card prices typically range from $4-$8 per card, depending on the level of detail, materials used, and the complexity of your art. If you’re selling originals or limited edition prints, you may be able to sell for even higher.

Another aspect to consider is wholesale vs. retail pricing. Many artists require a wholesale minimum of at least $200. In order to appeal to a larger audience, you may want to offer two types of art cards at two different price points: a basic and a deluxe version, or two different size options. Some artists offer a discount when a customer buys multiple items to help move product and increase their average sale amount. For example, you could set your price at $6 per card, or 3 cards for $15.

A good formula to follow when pricing your handmade art cards is this:

Supplies cost + time cost + overheads x 2 = wholesale price x 2 = retail price

Read more about pricing your handmade cards here.

How to Market Your Art Cards

Get creative with your product photography and include lifestyle shots to bring context to your product. Professional quality photos can go a long way in helping you build a polished brand. You can even achieve this with your phone and some natural lighting, a simple background, and a few props that you already have lying around the house.

Next, think about your story—what inspires you to create? What do you love most about your medium? Take a deep dive behind the scenes and show your process. Look at other artists you admire and pay attention to their writing style. What language do they use?

Once you have some photos and some written story elements, you can start marketing your art cards using Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest. These are three great platforms to share your images and your stories—and get discovered.

If it suits your style, consider starting a blog. Being active on social media helps attract potential customers, and gives you a polished and professional look when approaching shops about wholesale opportunities.

Many juried art shows also ask for your social media links. Having a solid online presence boosts your credibility and your chances of being accepted to these events.

Now, Go Make Your Art!

We hope this inspires you to get your handmade cards out into the world. With a little planning and research, you can make money by turning your art into greeting cards. If you’d like a deeper dive on making money from your art, find more greeting card selling tips here. Leave a comment below if you tried any of our tips! We’d love to hear your feedback.

Women’s Golf Tournament Theme Ideas

At Studio Style, we design, manufacture, and personalize a lot of golf tournament photo folders and frames every year. We’ve talked to a lot of golf tournament organizers, and helped them design picture frames for their events.

We see a lot of tournaments with a name, but no theme. It’s usually something like a scholarship fund, alumni raising money for a school, or a memorial event with fundraising dollars going toward research or helping families pay off expensive medical treatments.

But then sometimes we see a theme come through that really catches our eye. Themed golf events often double as fundraisers; the theme just helps make it a little more memorable.

So we’ve dug through our files and found some of the most memorable, most fun, and sometimes most quirky themes for women’s golf events.

Happy planning!

Memorable women’s golf event theme ideas

Fundraiser golf event theme ideas for women

If you’re planning a golf fundraising event, you can incorporate any theme you wish. However, there are some plays on words that fit specific fundraisers and awareness events.

Breast Cancer Awareness

Whether your club or group is involved with Play for P.I.N.K. or you’re planning your own event, here are some clever themes for breast cancer awareness fundraising golf events:

  • Pretty in Pink
  • Golfing for the Girls
  • Pink Out Party
  • Golf for a Cure
  • Get Your Pink On
  • I Pink I Can, I Pink I Can
  • Fasten Your Pink Ribbon
  • Save the Girls

If you’re planning an event like this, check out our pink ribbon photo folder or our pink watercolor photo folder.

Golf memorial fundraiser themes

There is no way to define a specific list of themes for memorial golf events. However, one clever way to “theme” the event would be to honor the person or group of people the tournament is in memory of.

For example, if they loved watching football, make it a tailgate theme. Were they a glam diva? Incorporate those elements. When planning the event, have a brainstorming session to come up with some ideas as to what that person was passionate about, and what difference they made.

How to choose photo booth picture frames for your photo booth prints

Photo booths had one heck of a ride in the early- to mid-20th century. Toward the later half of the century, they fell out of popularity, being relegated to dusty mall corners.

But the wedding and event planning business brought the booth back—and they brought it back BIG.

Those little photo booth picture strips the machine used to spit out? Photo booth owners still print those, but you can get photo booth pictures printed in so many more sizes: 4″ x 6″, 5″ x 7″, 2″ x 8″, and even 6″ x 20″!

The photo booth business is big, it’s bright, and it has a lot of options for brides, party planners, brand coordinators, and celebration enthusiasts.

Finding a booth is fun, choosing the props is fun, but there’s one thing that some event planners don’t always think about: how your guests are going to get those treasured photo booth pics home with them.

Sure, they could shove them in their purse or pocket, but that could leave the prints wrinkled, torn, or worse, lost.

Good news, we have some fun, affordable solutions for you.

We’re Studio Style, and we make paper photo folders and cardboard picture frames for event and studio photos. And we specialize in serving the photo booth market.

Why?

Because, while scrapbooks for photo booths are nice for the bride and groom or party honoree, they do nothing to help your guests get their pictures home.

So we stepped in to provide a practical solution for party planners. Let’s look at some photo booth picture frame options we’ve designed for party planners and photo booth owners.

Photo booth frame option #1: Paper photo folders

Have you heard of photo folders? In case you haven’t, all a photo folder is, is a paper picture frame with a flap that closes over it. Think of it like a picture frame inside a pocket folder. Photo folders are made out of sturdy paper (they’re sometimes referred to as “cardboard photo folders”).

The pros of paper photo folders

  • The cover protects the photo inside. No cake smudges. No fingerprints. No wrinkling, tearing, or creasing.
  • Lots of folder size options:
    • 2″ x 6″
    • 4″ x 5″
    • 4″ x 6″
    • 5″ x 7″
    • 6″ x 8″
    • 8″ x 10″
    • 8-½” x 11″
    • 10″ x 13″
    • 11″ x 14″
    • 6″ x 14″ / 6″ x 20″
  • Paper photo folders can be printed or foil stamped for even more branding possibilities.

Long story short: a photo folder is the safest way to get photo booth prints home undamaged.

The cons of paper photo folders

  • Because they have a cover, they aren’t designed to be displayed like a standard photo frame.

To be honest, one con is all we can think of for photo folders vs. photo frames.

One more thing about photo event folders:

Printing has come a long way, and we can easily cut out any window size you need. Want a photo folder for your square photo booth prints? We can do that. 2″ x 8″? 3″ x 7″? We’ve got you covered. Go on, dream big.

Getting the classic 2″ x 6″ picture strips? Yes, we have paper picture folders for those, too!

Photo booth frame option #2: Paper picture frames

When you think of photo frames, we’re going to assume you usually think of the type of frame that can stand up on its own or be hung on a wall. Though photo booth prints aren’t the same as senior pictures or wedding photos, they still deserve a place of honor on your desk or end table.

So option #2 for your photo booth pictures is stand-up paper photo frames.

The pros of paper picture frames

  • They have easels that allow for horizontal or vertical display on a desk or table.
  • Paper is easy to personalize! Add your event details or branding with full-color printing or foil stamping.
  • Lots of sizes!
    • 4″ x 4″
    • 5″ x 5″
    • 6″ x 6″
    • 4″ x 6″
    • 5″ x 7″
    • 8″ x 10″
    • 8-½” x 11″

The cons of paper picture frames

  • With paper photo booth print frames, there is no protective surface over the photo, so guests will still have to take care in transporting them home.
  • Paper frames from Studio Style don’t come with wall hanging tabs. However, since these frames are made out of lightweight paper, you can easily use a pushpin, some decorative tape, or magnets to hang your photos on the wall, the fridge, or even in your locker.

So what kind of paper frames can you get for photo booth pictures?

Studio Style has a few different options for paper photo frames:

  • 14pt white cardstock
    • Can be printed in full color
    • Paper is as sturdy as a greeting card
    • We can make photo booth frames for square prints (4×4, 5×5, and 6×6), as well as 4×6 and 5×7 picture sizes (oh hey, we can also make custom sizes!)

  • 20pt linen-weave cardstock
    • Great for foil stamping
    • Has a subtle textured feel
    • Available for 4×6, 5×7, 8×10, and 8-½x11

Photo booth frame option #3: Cardboard picture frames

Cardboard picture frames are sturdier than their paper alternatives, and are often used for higher-end events where full-color branding isn’t necessary. We have both cardboard options and frames made of of layered mat board material.

The pros of cardboard picture frames:

  • It has a higher-end appearance.
  • Very sturdy—stands up easily on any surface.
  • Pop-out easel for desk display PLUS tabs for hanging on a wall.
  • Cardboard frames for photo booth prints have foil stamped personalization for a classic touch.

The cons of cardboard picture frames:

  • Cardboard frames cost more per piece than their thinner alternatives (paper frames).
  • No printing options for cardboard or mat board frames (foil stamped only).

So why choose paper picture frames over acrylic photo booth frames?

The most popular alternative to paper picture frames are acrylic frames or plastic frames.

Here are three good reasons why paper is better than acrylic:

1. Paper is more eco-friendly to make and dispose of. There is a lot of discussion around paper vs. plastic (acrylic is plastic). The general consensus is that paper is generally more eco-friendly than plastic because it takes fewer resources to make, and is made from a renewable resource. A lot of it depends on where you source the paper from (we source our paper from mills that use sustainable forestry methods).

Now, the discussion on whether recycled paper or non-recycled paper is better is a whole other topic. Whichever side of that fence you’re on, we have also have a large selection of photo folders and picture frames made from recycled paper.

Lastly, if event guests decide to take their pictures out of the paper frames or folders, they can simply place their photo holders in the recycle bin.

2. Paper is so easy to personalize! There are so many options for adding your logo, monogram, or school mascot to paper picture frames. Want it printed in full color? That’s easy. Foil stamped? That’s classy… and easy.

3. Our paper photo booth picture frames are all USA-made. Since we make our photo event folders and frames (we make them in beautiful St. Charles, IL), we have complete control over the quality of the product. We can also get personalized frames to you PDQ.

Daddy Daughter Dance Themes

Just because everyone else throws Daddy-Daughter Dances where the daughters wear semi-formal dresses and the dads wear a shirt and tie doesn’t mean you have to follow suit. We say, have FUN!

Below, we’ve selected some popular themes for parties that could easily be used for your dance. Whether you’re a park district, school, church, or community group, these ideas easily fit within even tight budgets.

And we’re just going to throw it out there, but a photo booth would be such a fun addition to any theme for a Daddy Daughter Dance. We always recommend hiring a pro (their expertise helps make your event run nice and smooth), but if you take the DIY approach, you can use a photo booth app or—if you have some photography expertise—you can set up your own photo booth.

But you’re here for theme ideas for a Daddy Daughter Dance, so let’s go!

Princess

This one might be the most used, but sometimes girls like getting dressed up like a fairy tale princess, or even their favorite Disney princess. Here are some tips to planning a princess-themed Daddy Daughter Dance:

  • Attire: Girls in princess attire (from any story, TV show, movie, or make-believe). Dads can wear a coordinating shirt color. Bonus points if they match the tie or bow tie!
  • Games: If the event is in a gym with climbing ropes, dads race to see who can climb Rapunzel’s hair the fastest. Daughters can have horse races (on stick horses, perhaps), or maybe a coloring contest.
  • Booths: Face painting! Be sure to let the kids choose the art that is painted on their dad’s face. If a face painter is out of the budget, consider a tattoo station with an assortment of temporary tattoos like these glitter princess temporary tattoos or Disney princess temporary tattoos.

Sports

Second to the princess theme is a sports-themed Daddy Daughter Dance event. Why? Dad either likes watching sports or played sports as a kid, and his daughter probably plays sports or at least likes catching a ball or playing soccer with dad. So really, this one makes a lot of sense!

  • Attire: Professional sports team jerseys, or even your own sports uniform! If some guests aren’t into sports, give them some other attire ideas, like sweats or leggings, plus a comfy t-shirt and tennis shoes.
  • Games: If the girls are old enough, you could have a friendly game of dodgeball (dads throw underhand). If you can plan an event outside, here are some outdoor kid-friendly sports-themed games you could plan.
  • Food: Pretend you’re at the ballpark and serve hot dogs, nachos, chips, and popcorn.

Fantasy & Wizards

Let’s face it—Harry Potter and Percy Jackson will never really go out of style. The magic of some book series just seem to endure, so why not center your theme around that?

While not every girl might have read the most popular fantasy series, she probably has friends who has. And if dad hasn’t read them, he’s probably at least familiar with them.

  • Attire: Encourage dads and wizards daughters to dress in their best wizard or fantasy apparel. Dads could dress as knights, a prince, a wizard, or even a court jester. Girls could be a wizard, princess, or even the one and only Hermione Granger.
  • Games: Do a “Wingardium Leviosa” game. Give all the girls wands (just go on a hunt in your backyard for some nice sticks), and have them point it at dad and say, “Wingardium Leviosa!” When she says it, dad jumps! Measure the height of the jump. The most powerful wizard (and “levitating” dad) wins.

Country Western Hoedown

Well, yee-haw! Whether you live in a dense urban environment or you can hear roosters crowing out the front door, some rustic country flair is always a fun party theme. Whether you call it a Hoedown or a Buckeroo Ball, this one will be fun.

Here’s how to make a country-themed Daddy Daughter Dance work:

  • Attire: Plaid , checker print, boots, denim, flannel, bibs (or “bibbers,” if you prefer)… you get the idea. Need some inspiration? Think Dorothy and her aunt and uncle from The Wizard of Oz.
  • Décor: If you can find it (and the venue allows), add some straw bales for some casual seating. Just be sure to throw a blanket over the top—straw can be itchy!
  • Activities: For an easy ice breaker, have an event leader teach everyone a simple line dance. Some country karaoke would also be fun.

Luau / Tropical Beach

Take a trip to the beach! Well, at least pretend you are. Whether you build your own sand pit, or just have some kinetic sand for daughters (and dads) to play with, a beach-themed Daddy Daughter event is a fun idea—and a great reprieve from cold weather if your event is in the winter.

Here are some ideas for planning a beach-themed party:

  • Attire: Swimsuits might be out of the question if it’s winter, but encourage dads and daughters to wear bright colors, tropical patterns, Hawaiian Luau shirts, sunglasses, and beach hats. For an inexpensive giveaway, consider giving them leis when they arrive at the dance.
  • Games & Activities: Make colorful sand art in jars, make your own leis, or create a mini beach! Fill a kiddie pool with some sand, and add some beach toys. This would be a great activity for younger kids.
  • Music: Consider hiring a Hawaiian band to play at your tropical event, or at least a wandering ukulele player to entertain guests for a bit.

Superhero

Who’s the superhero… dad or daughter? Or both? Whatever the answer, this one is sure to pack a punch with both the dads and their little girls. Whether they want to dress up with the big “S” for Superman or don Wonder Woman’s outfit, girls are sure to love this fun party theme for their Daddy Daughter Dance. We’re pretty sure it’ll be a hit with dads, too.

  • Attire: Superhero shirts or costumes. Be sure to check with your venue to see if costume accessories are allowed.
  • Activities: Create your own superhero! Kind of like a cut-out doll, but provide a table with the all the accessories (capes, masks, outfits, etc.), and let them go to town. You can make these out of paper, felt, fabric, or a variety of materials. Decorate with markers, paint, or—if you’re feeling brave—glitter.
  • Décor: Print out or draw icons of popular superheroes to hang on the walls: Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Spiderman, Captain America. Have an artistic event volunteer? Have them create a superhero icon unique to your event!

POW! This is a folder that even Superman would approve of. Designed in a colorful comic book-style theme, this folder would look great with your Daddy Daughter Dance photos.

Hollywood / Red Carpet

Treat those girls and their dads like the stars they are! Roll out the red carpet for this Hollywood-inspired theme. Great for girls of any age.

To make it more “authentic,” set up your photo booth (or just have someone take pictures) when they walk in on the red carpet. Add a backdrop or your choosing. While you could find one online or at a craft store, a DIY photo booth backdrop can be a lot of fun to make.

  • Attire: Let them dress like their favorite actor or actress, or make it a black tie event.
  • Food & Drink: While champagne is really out of the question here, why not serve sparkling apple juice or sparkling grape juice? And if you haven’t heard, there is such a thing as gold sugar sprinkles. The perfect topping for cupcakes!

Red Carpet & Hollywood Star Photo Folders

The red carpet party theme is SO popular, we dedicated an entire line to it! Choose an actual red carpet, go black tie, or throw in a little Hollywood art deco.

What to do if dad can’t make it to the Daddy Daughter Dance

If you aren’t sure if dad can make it, be sure to extend the invitation to other adult important to the daughter, including grandfathers, uncles, brothers, or even a close family friend. Scheduling events can be hard on parents, so be sure to let them know it isn’t exclusive to just dads.

What themes have you used?

Daddy Daughter Dances don’t all have to be the same. Add a fun event theme to make it a truly memorable event for dads and daughters.

Custom Photo Folders for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Why photo folders are a great, inexpensive giveaway for your breast cancer awareness event

As hard as the Breast Cancer Research Foundation is working to prevent and cure breast cancer, public awareness and education are still needed. Your breast cancer awareness event is the perfect opportunity to share important facts and spread the word about getting a mammogram screening.

Believe it or not, custom photo folders for breast cancer awareness events are a practical, personalized way to reach current and potential donors. This creative fundraising event giveaway allows you to do more than just add branding. These pink photo holders for BCA events let you do more.

Don’t believe us? Let’s look at a quick example.

With custom printed photo folders, you can add your event or foundation branding on the front cover. On the back, add foundation facts (how much have you raised?), breast cancer screening tips, or even short stories from survivors. Be sure to add your website URL so you can continue your story online.

But photo folders do more than hold a picture—they hold memories.

A cancer awareness photo folder is much more than a promotional giveaway for your event. It’s an emotional tie to something that really matters to a lot of women—and men.

Paper picture frames and cardboard photo folders give them a way to keep that memory from your event safe. For some, the event is done in memory of someone they lost. For others, it’s for someone they know who’s currently going through cancer treatment, or for a survivor who has fought beat breast cancer.

Photo folders provide your non-profit foundation or charity a way to reach out to those who support you. This awareness product lets them know that, by supporting your organization, they are helping you find a way to prevent and cure breast cancer.

  • Add sponsor logos in full color to the front or back of a custom printed photo folio for no extra charge! This gives your corporate supporters extra brand recognition.
  • Send families, volunteers, and participants home with a personalized picture frame imprinted with your event name and date as a thank you gift.
  • Mail custom event invitation cards out to past donors asking for their support.
  • Share mammogram FAQs and local resources to encourage participants to get checked. An early screening can save a life!
