Why booking annual golf events is good for your photography business

We make a lot of photo folders for annual golf events. Those events are awesome for vendors because they are a recurring event: book them once, and you can book them every year. Are you booking these events?

If you’re an event photographer or photo booth owner, you already work hard enough. Here are some tips and ideas for how to break into the golf event market—and easily book those annual events.

These are the golf event clients you should look for

Golf tournaments aren’t just for the pros: park districts, country clubs, schools, alumni associations, business groups, industry associations, and more.

Find their event schedule; if there is a golf event listed, reach out to see if they are interested in booking your photo booth.

What kind of golf events are there?

Knowing what kind of golf events there are will help you plan who to approach.

  • Tournaments
  • Invitationals
  • Opens
  • Classics
  • Derbys
  • Scrambles
  • Charity
  • Fundraisers
  • Reunions
  • Benefits
  • Client Appreciation Events
  • Women’s Events

What kind of photos do you take at golf events?

The event planners might have specific ideas on what kind of golf tournament pictures are best, but here are some of the standard photos taken at golf events:

  • Foursome photos. This is the most popular golf event photo. Take a picture of each team at the first hole, before the tournament begins. Some event planners might want photos taken at select sponsor holes.
  • Golfer portraits. For a memorable keepsake or gift, take a formal, posed portrait on the course.
  • Action shots. Capture them on the backswing or in the sandpit for some shots with great movement.
  • After-party pictures. Many tournaments host dinner, drinks, or an award ceremony after the event. Take group photos or set up a location to take group photos (like a photo booth).

Protect golf event prints & provide event favors with photo folders

Don’t send golfers home with a print thrown in their golf bag. Protect those prints with golf photo folders. Available to photographers and photo booth owners at wholesale pricing. Swag it Up! Custom Branded Giveaways for Women’s Golf Tournaments that WOW.

You’ve chosen the tournament theme, you have the guest list made, the venue booked. Now, the swag. Do you have any golf tournament swag ideas? Choosing the best swag for women’s golf tournaments should be fun—and it should reflect on the event you’re hosting.

Before you jump in too far and get lost in the world of custom event giveaways, here are a few recommendations that have been a hit at women’s golf tournaments and events.

A few quick points to consider:

  • What do you want golfers to remember about your event? If you put your logo on the giveaways, they’ll remember the event. If you give them something personalized—something with their name, or perhaps a framed photo—the memories of that day will live on.
  • What’s your budget per guest for your tournament favors? If it’s a large budget, you can either get one nice prize per golfer, or divide it into several gifts in a goodie bag.
  • Are your sponsors willing to chip in? If the sponsor pays for the swag, their logo or message could also go on it.
  • Will everyone get a gift, or will this just be for a few golfers? Some golf event planners prefer to give prizes just to the tournament winners or do a random prize drawing.
  • Does it need to have a logo on it? Most giveaways with event logos require higher order minimums, anywhere from 10 pieces to 500! If event branding isn’t a concern, reach out to local shops to see if they are interested in donating to the event.

Let’s start with an obvious golf event giveaway: golf gear!

You can go big, or you can give out something that fits in their pocket.

  • Golf Balls
  • Golf Tees
  • Club Covers
  • Divot Tool
  • Ball Marker
  • Golf Stand Bag – it’s a larger purchase, but would be the perfect raffle prize

Custom imprinted golf balls and tees are a practical giveaway. One thing to remember: message first, logo second.

Bling it with custom jewelry

Bracelets, necklaces, earrings… you name it, you can get it custom made. There is a trick here: work with the jewelry maker or retailer to find a designed piece that women will WANT to wear. If you want to put your logo on it, the back of the jewelry might be best. Think about it: would you wear a necklace with a big logo on the front?

Bag Hanger

Give the ladies an easy solution to safely hang up their purse when out and about: a bag hanger! Designed to hold firmly to a table or bar top, this nifty tool fits in the purse and holds it up. Handbag hangers: a simple solution that no one knew they needed… but loved it when they started using it!

Ornaments

Your golf outing might be in July, but gifting ornaments is always in season. And with the right ornament, this is a favor that could last for many, many years to come.

Christmas ornament with text that reads: less work more golf!
Ornaments are a popular gift—even for summer golf tournaments! It’s a great reminder of your event.

Bottle Openers

A small giveaway, but oh-so-useful! Choose one that women will want to carry around in their purse or pocket for when they’re out and about. Because let’s face it: you never know when you’ll need a cute bottle opener!

Give the gift of food

While food gifts are not a long-lasting gift, the sentiment—and taste—will be remembered. With food gifts, you have two options for branding purposes:

Option #1: Give food that comes in reusable containers (metal is popular). That way, your tournament logo or message can be put on the tin, event guests can reuse the tin, and the memories live on.

Option #2: Gift custom logo cookies. Your logo can be printed directly on the frosting! If you want to get a bit more of a lasting impression, encourage golfers to post images of their tasty delights on social media and tag the tournament or company.

Branded golf apparel: practical… and stylish

We love receiving branded apparel from events. Hats, t-shirts, sweatshirts… it’s practical and a great reminder of the event. However, it’s all too easy to give out poorly-designed hats or t-shirts. Here’s what you need to know about designing golf apparel as event giveaways:

The event logo should be secondary to the message. Put it underneath the message, slogan, or visuals, or put it in another location altogether.

Remember: if golfers remember the memories and how the event made them feel, they will remember the company or club that hosted it.

Capture the memories with picture frames

If you’re hiring an event photographer or a photo booth, this one seems like a given. And there are plenty of perfectly affordable golf photo frame options that you can order—even if you’re giving out some of the prizes listed above.

With golf tournament picture frames, you can get executive-style wooden frames or even wood-like frames. Or you can go with a more budget-friendly solution with paper golf frames and photo folders. And yes, with either solution, you can put a logo on it.

Include a thank you card (or follow up with one)

If you’re giving out just a small prize, you can likely skip this. But if you’re handing out gift bags or a larger prize, include a thank you card, expressing gratitude for those who participated in your event. It’s simple, and it can really help create that lasting impression so they come back next year.

What goodies do you hand out at tournaments?

We’d love to hear what creative gifts you’ve given out—and how they were received by the golfers. Or share your golf tournament swag ideas! Share in the comments below or send us a message or on Facebook or Instagram.

Happy golfing!

Women’s Golf Tournament Theme Ideas

At Studio Style, we design, manufacture, and personalize a lot of golf tournament photo folders and frames every year. We’ve talked to a lot of golf tournament organizers, and helped them design picture frames for their events.

We see a lot of tournaments with a name, but no theme. It’s usually something like a scholarship fund, alumni raising money for a school, or a memorial event with fundraising dollars going toward research or helping families pay off expensive medical treatments.

But then sometimes we see a theme come through that really catches our eye. Themed golf events often double as fundraisers; the theme just helps make it a little more memorable.

So we’ve dug through our files and found some of the most memorable, most fun, and sometimes most quirky themes for women’s golf events.

Happy planning!

Fundraiser golf event theme ideas for women

If you’re planning a golf fundraising event, you can incorporate any theme you wish. However, there are some plays on words that fit specific fundraisers and awareness events.

Breast Cancer Awareness

Whether your club or group is involved with Play for P.I.N.K. or you’re planning your own event, here are some clever themes for breast cancer awareness fundraising golf events:

  • Pretty in Pink
  • Golfing for the Girls
  • Pink Out Party
  • Golf for a Cure
  • Get Your Pink On
  • I Pink I Can, I Pink I Can
  • Fasten Your Pink Ribbon
  • Save the Girls

If you’re planning an event like this, check out our pink ribbon photo folder or our pink watercolor photo folder.

Golf memorial fundraiser themes

There is no way to define a specific list of themes for memorial golf events. However, one clever way to “theme” the event would be to honor the person or group of people the tournament is in memory of.

For example, if they loved watching football, make it a tailgate theme. Were they a glam diva? Incorporate those elements. When planning the event, have a brainstorming session to come up with some ideas as to what that person was passionate about, and what difference they made.

How to Frame Golf Event Photos with Golf-Themed Photo Folders & Frames

Golf season is in full swing, and if you’re planning a tournament, we’ve got the perfect keepsake for your guests. Our line of custom golf photo frame products is great for golf outings, company tournaments, and charity fundraisers. Here’s a quick overview of a few products, and some ideas for how to use them as giveaways at your golf event.

1. Golf Dimple Easel Frames

Dimpled like a real golf ball! These bevel cut frames are available in a single or double mat construction for 4×6, 5×7, or 8×10 prints. These golf frames are made of textured mat board that feels like a real golf ball! Great for raffle prizes, framing awards, presenting certificates or for holding golf foursome photos.

2. Printed Golf Photo Folders

We can create a fully custom, full-color printed folder for your golf event. Highlight your logo, event details, and the story behind your tournament by printing on the front, back, inside, and outside.  Include sponsor recognition for additional branding and exposure. Send these home with every guest to keep your message going long after the tournament is over. Don’t forget to add a website address and contact information. This can be especially helpful when raising money and awareness for a charity to let guests know where they can go to get involved with the organization.

Photographers who affiliate themselves with a country club or golf course can use these folders to highlight the signature hole – golf pros and venues LOVE this because it builds awareness for where the event was held.

3. Quick Ship Golf Folders

What if your event is right around the corner and you didn’t order soon enough for a personalized folder? (Custom orders typically take 5-7 business days for production). We also have quick ship designs like the Golf FORE, the Golf Crest, the Golf Ball Tee, and the Golf Gatefold printed photo folders. These designs are pre-made, and are ready to ship the same day you order.

Bonus tip: Get a photography sponsor to cover the cost of the golf folders and frames to help stay on budget when planning your golf tournament.

See more custom photo folder designs at StudioStyle.com/Golf or call us at (800) 346-3063 with any questions. We’ll see you on the green!

Golf Tournament Giveaways & Photo Op Ideas

Hosting a golf tournament takes a lot of work. But with proper planning, it can be a rewarding fundraiser and promotional opportunity for your charity or organization.

It’s important to keep in mind that the success of a golf outing can impact whether golfers and their guests return again for next year’s event. You’ll want to make sure the are engaged, leave with some great memories, and of course, some great prizes, too.

Studio Style is here to help make your golf event successful and memorable with these ideas for golf tournament giveaways.

Smile! Golf Tournament Photos Make it Memorable.

What better way to help guests remember your event, than with a photo? Hire a local event photographer to take candid and posed pictures at your golf outing. Print the photos on site so that guests can take them home the same day.

Include your branding and golf event logo on souvenir photo holders for a memorable keepsake. Let guests know that you’ll also post the photos online soon after the event, and how they can access the album. This creates a lasting connection between the guests and your organization. It also allows for social media image sharing, resulting in further engagement with your brand beyond the event.

Pro Tip: Free photo hosting platforms like Facebook, Google Photos, Dropbox, Flickr, and SmugMug allow you to easily upload and share event photos with others.

Golf Outing Photo Ops: When, Where, and What Kind of Photos?

Take Golfer Photos at Check-in

Set up a photo station with a backdrop that matches the theme of your outing. Ask guests to strike a pose as soon as they’re checked in. Include some themed props for some extra fun. Taking guests’ photos when they arrive is ideal if you’re expecting hot weather. Golfers may be less inclined to pose for a photo op after they’ve spent several hours golfing in the sun. This also gives you time to get the photos printed before they leave.

Pro Tip: A branded photo backdrop can be a great opportunity to sell sponsors, with logo exposure in all event photos.

Take Action Shots of Golfers

Guests will appreciate seeing some action shots from out on the course, too. Have your photographer (or volunteers) capture photos of foursomes and individual golfers during the tournament. Take a selection of candid and posed shots for good variety.

Take Photos With a Celebrity

If you invite a keynote speaker or golf pro, ask them to pose with golfers. Even having the town mayor attend can add prestige to your event and create a lasting impression for your guests. If a celebrity is out of your budget, try a cardboard cut-out! It will give event attendees something to laugh about.

Rent a Photo Booth

In between golfing and dinner, allow guests to entertain themselves with a photo booth. Many photo booth rental packages come with a selection of props for guests to pose with. If you’re on a tight budget, a DIY photo booth might be a better fit. Don’t have a dSLR camera? Check out this DIY photo booth using your phone.

Hand Out Golf Goodie Bags

Custom golf photo folders and frames are affordable, personalized golf tournament giveaways to send home with attendees. These golf-themed photo holders can be printed with your event name, logo, date, and even sponsor info. Include it in the golf goodie bags along with other giveaways like snacks, golf balls, tees, and discount coupons from sponsors. Add a flyer or postcard with info about your charity or organization, a list of upcoming events, and a nice thank you note showing appreciation for their participation. Remember to order your photo holders and golf giveaway items at least one month ahead of your event date!

Pro Tip: Event sponsors can help offset the cost of prizes and promotional materials. Ask if they’d like to provide branded giveaways like water bottles, imprinted golf balls, bag tags, towels, or ball markers that sport their logo.

Prizes & Awards for Golfers

Give out tournament prizes and awards during the lunch or dunner break, or near the end of the event. Trophies, printed award certificates, and giveaways add prestige to your golf event or fundraiser. Golf prizes like a putter, cart bag, or gift card to the local pro shop are great for “closest to the hole” and “longest drive” contests, but also try to think beyond what they players and golf enthusiasts would enjoy.

Plan some prizes that can be appreciated by their spouses and co-workers, too. For instance, offer a catered lunch for the office from a local eatery, or a gift certificate for an evening of entertainment at a comedy club or theater.

Don’t forget about your volunteers! Recognize your tournament planning committee with a special thank you gift. Certificate frames and award folders are a personalized touch for those who worked so hard to help you organize a successful golf event.

Pro Tip: Hold a raffle at your tournament to boost your fundraising efforts, and send more guests home with winnings.

Great Prizes Generate Great Buzz

As you organize your tournament, start promoting your prizes well in advance (2-3 months is ideal). Stir up excitement and list any big ticket items on your website and social media. Ask your followers to share and comment on which prizes they like best (this also helps you gauge interest for planning the next year’s prizes).

If you’ve secures a sponsor who’s contributing a buzz-worthy prize, talk it up in your pre-event advertising. Submit a press release to local media outlets for some bonus coverage on your tournament. Encourage tournament sponsors to cross promote their contribution and involvement with the event for increased exposure.
